Mark Bays
With a bachelors degree in Forestry from OSU, Mark has worked in traditional forestry in Colorado and California and was self-employed in Oklahoma and Texas as a consultant in urban and community forestry, arboriculture, and tree care. Now retired, Mark worked with the Oklahoma Forestry Services for 33 years helping communities and individuals appreciate the value, benefits and services trees provide. He administers grant programs that provide funding to communities and non-profits for tree planting, education opportunities and local program development. Since 1996, Mark and others within Forestry Services and the tree care industry have been directly involved with the OKC Memorial Foundation and recovery efforts centering on improving the health of the Survivor Tree. This native, American Elm, is less than a hundred yards from the detonation and is the closest living tree that took the full force of the bomb. It is now the centerpiece of the Memorial that was dedicated on April 19th, 2000. In 2022 Mark was the recipient of the Larry Kotchman Lifetime Achievement Award as presented by the national association of State Foresters. Marks favorite quote: "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now."
Oklahoma Landscape Architecture Board
Executive Director (Leslie Hanska), Board Chair (Candace Dillingham), and Enforcement and Compliance Officer (Lauren Vaughan) will provide an overview of the Oklahoma Board of Architects, Landscape Architects, and Licensed Interior Designers' purpose and duties, along with a look at licensure and the ever-evolving paths to licensure, recent changes to the Oklahoma State Architectural and Licensed Interior Designers Act, and what happens when a licensee violates the law.
Max D'Aurizio
Max grew up playing a first-growth oak forest, splashing around in the local bay and taking careful note of how the natural world changed around him. He quickly learned that nature is the best playground. Prior to graduating from Cornell University with a degree in Landscape Architecture, he worked as a garden designer and contractor in the greater Rochester area. In his career as a Landscape Architect, Max has prioritized the design of destination playgrounds, regional parks and diverse learning environments. He focuses on bringing the benefits of natural settings to urban environments, so that all children have the same opportunity to learn and grow through play.
Robert Richardson
Robert, PLA, has 15 years of diverse experience in landscape architecture, encompassing everything from large-scale park master planning and botanical garden design to detailed construction documentation. Since 2020, he has been an active member of the OSU Landscape Architecture Professional Advisory Council. Recently, Robert served as the landscape architeture for the Expedition Africa project at the Oklahoma City Zoo.
Darran Scott
Darran has experience with a variety of different project types and has provided research, analysis, design, and planning services for more than 20 years. He has successfully worked with over 35 Oklahoma communities on over 50 municipal projects including zoo exhibits, parks, multi-purpose athletic facilities, wayfinding, streetscape plans and trails. As the project manager, Darran oversaw the design and construction of the recently completed Predator Pass project at the OKC Zoo. Darran loves the challenge of taking on a new project and creating design solutions that address the uniqueness of each opportunity.
